Route 66: The Mother Road (part I)

"Get your kicks on Route 66"

Many people must have watched Disney's animation movie, Cars.  That's exactly the story of US Route 66.  Route 66 is also called the Mother Road as well as the Main Street of America.  It was estabilshed in 1926.  The highway ran from Chicago, Illinois, through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona before ending at Santa Monica, California.  Total length is 2,451 miles.

Well, at least that's what it used to be.  Nowadays, travelers take interstate highways to save time.  As the result, the traffic on Route 66 has almost disappears, and the towns and shops on Route 66 have almost disappear too.

And since Route 66 is so old, some parts of it blend into local street or highway.  Most towns on Route 66 are gone.  They are so-called "Ghost towns" on Route 66.  The remaining ones are not doing much better, either.

For every bikers, Route 66 is a must-visit route because of its history.

I was lucky enough to have a chance to ride on it once.  I did not finish the whole route due to time constraint, but I knew I would come back to it and finish the whole route someday.  I must.

Day 1:

Entering the Mojave desert

Ran into this couple before entering the desert.  They were kind and offered me to ride with them since I am a green crop to Route 66.

An awesome cafe place they took me to

All the nice deco next to the cafe place:
